Discovering Nature with Young Children
12 Hours of Professional Growth for free, especially for Placer County teachers and caregivers of children 0-5 years old.
All thanks to a special partnership with First 5 Placer!
The six dynamic, two-hour sessions present and demonstrate “nature play.” After learning all about the benefits, you get to use hands-on tools and
get inspirational ideas to facilitate nature study. Learn how to weave themes into other indoor and outdoor activities. You can attend all six sessions or just your favorite topics.
The workshops held during the 2009-2010 school year are on Thursdays from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM. We meet at the Placer County Office of Education Annex at 356 Nevada Street in Auburn.

Nature Bowl Coaches Workshop
For teachers of 3rd to 6th Grade and Parent Volunteers
This workshop provides all the information and materials needed to successfully coach a student team to compete in the regional Nature Bowl, a fun, friendly competition where students in grades three through six demonstrate their knowledge of nature and our local environment. Activities include team problem solving, a nature relay, creation of an "enviro-mercial," outdoor investigations and a fast-paced, Jeopardy-like game called "Bell-Ringers.

Field Trip Funding, Grants & Scholarships
Water & Watershed Education Funds
Classrooms in Placer COunty are eligible for full or partial funding of water education field trips to Placer Nature Center or for off-site programs at your school or at Traylor Ranch. Title 1 schools can also request reimbursement for bus transportation. *Look for the WaterShed logo for eligible programs!
