Kids have the power to save the planet!

You can do these things everyday at home and school!

  1. Plant a tree or garden.
  2. Save energy:
    • Turn off the lights, TV & computer when not in use.
    • Only use the lights that you need.
    • Use daylight instead artificial light.
    • Wear a sweater when you're cold and have an adult turn down the thermostat.
    • Only open the refrigerator to get things out and put them away. (Don't leave the door open while you are trying to decide!)
  3. Save water:
    • Take short showers instead of baths.
    • Turn the water off when you brush your teeth or wash your face.
    • Keep a pitcher of cold water in the refrigerator instead of letting the water run until cold.
    • Tell your parents or guardian if the faucet leaks.
  4. Reuse items:
    • Give old toys & clothes to someone who can use them.
    • Reuse boxes & plastic for craft projects.
    • Reuse sandwich bags again after washing them.
    • Print or write on both sides of paper.
  5. Recycle:
    • Take newspapers, cardboard, cans, plastic & glass to the recycle center.
  6. Reduce:
    • Make compost with leaves, grass, vegetable & fruit peels. When decomposed, use the mulch on flowerbeds & garden.
    • Try to buy only items that come in packaging you can reuse or recycle.
    • Take my own shopping bag to the super- market instead of getting a new bag every time.
    • Use a sponge or cloth towel instead of a paper towel to clean up.
    • Start a worm compost bin and feed your worms leftover produce scaps and yard clippings.
  7. Pick up litter.
  8. Protect my animal and plant friends.
  9. Fix broken things.
  10. Walk or ride a bike with my parent/guardian, instead of always asking for a ride.
  11. Make a zero waste lunch.
