Photography Contest for Placer County High School Students
Placer Nature Center is seeking photos to help document the Placer Nature Center trail. All Placer County High School students are encouraged to attend one of two free classes* on how to take nature photography given by a professional photographer at PNC. Winning photographs displayed at the April Art Walk at the Old Library Artist Studios as well as receive prizes.

Siemens We Can Change the World Competition
NSTA, the Siemens Foundation, and Discovery Communications partner to conduct this sustainability education competition for students to develop innovative green solutions for their schools, homes, and communities. This competition will involve a team of students identifying, researching, and recommending a solution to an environmental problem in their community.

1st Annual Live Deliberately Essay Contest
This first annual essay contest from the Thoreau Institute of the Walden Woods Project asks students to respond to Thoreau’s famous call to “live deliberately.” In 500 words or fewer, students are prompted to consider what their own deliberate lives look and feel like. Essays will be judged in two age categories: 13–16 years and 17-21 years.
