Greening Your holiday!

December is a time of goodwill and celebration, often accompanied by seasonal increases in eating, drinking and spending. If all goes well this combination should result in a lot of fun, but unfortunately it will also result in an estimated 3 million tons of waste.
Meet LEED AP Certified “green” designer Marie Brown, owner of Eco-Chic Design on ways you can make your holidays a little greener. Marie will give examples for entertaining, decorating and gift giving.
“I feel that people can have a better idea of how to green their holidays when they can actually see and do it for themselves,” says Brown. “In addition to stimulating their creative juices, I will also give them the means and information to get started right away.”
From Thanksgiving to New Years Day, household waste increases by more than 25%. Added food waste, shopping bags, packaging, wrapping paper, bows and ribbons - it all adds up to an additional 1 million tons a week to our landfills (EPA and Use Less Stuff).
The average American spends $800 on gifts over the holiday season.
According to a national survey, 70% of Americans would welcome less emphasis on gift giving and spending (Center for a New American Dream).
With a bit of thought you can limit the impact you have on the environment this Christmas and still have a great time!
