Education Assistant
Volunteers are the lifeblood of Placer Nature Center. If you are organized, enjoy working with people and can dedicate 8-16 hours each week , the education assistant position would be perfect to get experience and prove your expertise in the education field. This is a volunteer position.
What this opportunity entails:
Lead school groups and others through the Placer Nature Center’s environmental education programs after taking the training. The programs focus on natural and cultural history and water resources and may be on site or off site. Occasionally, the intern may be asked to help at events, assist with the Nature Shop or on weekend programs. Intern will also learn to set up and take down the program materials and may be involved in program material preparation.
Areas of expansion are:
- Special Events & Preparation
- Special Projects
- Mobile Educational Representatives
- Developing the educational component of youth group projects (includes Scouts, High School Senior Project, etc.)
Place of work:
- you can work both at Placer Nature Center to use our computers, phones, or
- work from home, checking in by phone/email (necessary to have phone, computer and internet)
Key skills/personal qualities for success:
- Communication Skills: feel comfortable calling and talking with people. Clearly communicate important information.
- Sensitivity: awareness and sensitivity to people of all cultures, abilities, orientations, ages and genders.
- Leadership: be a self-starter, maintain a schedule, no procrastination, good time management, strong work ethic.
- Patience
- Computer Skills: able to access email.
- Enjoy working with children in the outdoors!
Great experience for the following majors:
Natural Resources, environmental sciences, communications, or teaching career students would find this experience an excellent opportunity to utilize their skills however these majors are not required.
